PR4Y 4 PISCE$ by Parris LaVon – Aipate
I stumbled on Parris LaVon‘s music in 2018. To this day, the song “Better Off” still has an effect on me, thanks mostly to the rapper’s great lyricism.
But, in his raps, there’s always something else that draws me in: his embodiment of hip hop’s aspirational nature. It is a consistent theme. Another great illustration of this exists in his Kobe Bryant-inspired 2019 song, “Two-Four“.
So, even when Parris trades his lyrical fire for melodic crooning, like on his new EP titled PR4Y 4 PISCE$, that go-getter attribute remains.
LaVon hails from the US state of Maryland but is currently stationed in Los Angeles.
PR4Y 4 PISCE$ is a 4-song EP about love lost and desiring something unattainable. Musically, it finds LaVon venturing into an unchartered territory as he leans into R&B and melodic hip hop.
The first track “Cayenne” is a moody track filled with flowing synths. It details LaVon’s romantic adventures. The following track “Say Less” is less moody, incorporating crispier trap beats over which Parris bares out his soul. Alongside featured artist 1AMVibes, he describes love that, at times, feels fading.
“Right Beside Me” builds on the emotional musings from the previous track. It features a saccharine skit reaffirming the said romantic connection.
On “Canada Goose” though, the old Parris re-emerges. His great technical skills result in beautifully woven verses. “Canada Goose” is a great way to conclude the EP, which only runs for 11 minutes.
PR4Y 4 PISCE$ isn’t Parris LaVon departing from what he is best known for — it’s him embracing vulnerability as a tool for growth. Follow Parris LaVon Instagram.
