A Love Supreme Returns to Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA This fall, Philadelphia’s rich jazz legacy takes center stage once again. On Friday, September 26, 2025, the iconic Clef Club of Jazz welcomes back one of its own—saxophonist Dahi Divine—for an electrifying tribute to the immortal John Coltrane. Divine will be joined on stage with the exceptional rhythm section of Alex Claffy on bass, Neil Podgurski on piano and Khary Shaheed on drums.

Presented as part of The Love Supreme Weekend, this special evening features a performance (7:30 PM) that promise to be both a homecoming and a revelation. Divine, a buzz-worthy artist whose sound has been praised for blending technical brilliance with raw emotional fire, began his journey as a student within the very walls of the Clef Club. Now, he returns to honor Coltrane’s enduring influence with a performance that bridges tradition, innovation, and the spirit of Philadelphia jazz.

The night will celebrate the timeless music of Coltrane—his passion, his genius, and his message of love and transcendence—reimagined through the fresh, fearless artistry of one of today’s most compelling young saxophonists. For audiences, it’s not just a concert: it’s a chance to experience Coltrane’s legacy alive and evolving, in the city where his roots still run deep.

This event not only honors one of jazz’s greatest visionaries but also celebrates the ongoing mission of the Clef Club under the direction of Oscar Payne, the recently appointed managing director: to nurture new generations of artists and keep Philadelphia’s jazz tradition thriving. Payne shares, “during the summer jazz camp Divine was part of the instructor team, one of three. He handled a lot of the theory. You could see that he had a passion for helping the children and it was notable that he was a Clef Club alum. The place was lit up during the summer jazz camp and much of the excitement centered around Dahi. After a few conversations and some brainstorming together, Dahi was offered the position to direct the upcoming jazz program and to provide the entertainment for the Coltrane tribute.”
