On the phone with my mom is the just-released debut album by New York-based Canadian singer-songwriter Maddie Regent. The 14-song collection was co-written and produced by Cade Hoppe, who is both Maddie’s creative associate and life partner. Its focus track, “Any day now”, is a glistening and melodious pop song that draws the listener in from the first note.
“This is a song about the anxiety of adulthood—the feeling that if things are going right then they’re also bound to go wrong at some point,” Maddie says.
Independently released, the album finds Regent confident in her artistry. It is not just raw and introspective, it’s also quite vibrant.
